*Summer Solstice - Litha - June 21st

_Lore and Activities_
Today has the longest period of daylight of the entire year. The Goddess
is very pregnant - like the Earth She is showing the promise of a
bountiful harvest. The God is at His prime as the Hunter Herne. He is
also seen in the Celtic struggle between the Holly and Oak Kings. Today
they battle for supremacy and the Holly King, representing the waning
year, triumphs, sending the Oak king into hibernation until they fight
once more at Yule.
In one way or another every sabbat is a fire festival. Midsummer is
powerfully connected to fire because the Sun is at the zenith of power
today.
For the ancient Celts today was a time to bless and strengthen the
fields. And to perform protective magicks. Another tradition, that is
being revived in recent years, is the lighting of balefires. Gathering
herbs is also traditional on Midsummer, herbs are said to be at the peak
of their potency today.

_Here are some activities to share with your little witch_:
* If you made a protection amulet/talisman last Litha bury your it then
make and empower a new one.
*Tie 3-4 cinnamon sticks together with white or gold ribbon and hang it
from your front door. Could also be given as a gift.
*Make a herbal sachet of rosemary, basil, and rue. Tie (or hand sew) the
herbs inside a piece of white or gold cloth (or felt), empower it and
carry it in your pocket, purse, or backpack for protection. Another gift
idea.
*Take a nature picnic with your little Witch at a local stream or lake.
While there look for Goddess and God stones. A Goddess stone is one with
a natural hole in it, a God stone resembles the shape of a phallus. When
you return home place the stones around the perimeter of your property
(or at the Four Cardinal Points), arrange them on your altar, or carry
them with you for protection. Another gift idea.
*Construct a God’s Eye jingle Shaker and have a drumming jam with your
little Witch and friends. Another gift idea. This link has a how-to:

*Cut flowers to dry. Cut flowers, tie them into small bouquets and hang
to dry, upside-down.
*Leave a feast for the Faery Folk! Faeries are especially fond of milk,
honey, butter, wine and cakes. Set them a little table, on a flat rock,
in your garden. Your little Witch will be amazed when the gifts they
have left are gone in the morning!
*Make a protective amulet/talisman for your pet.
