2 - HOMEMADE ALTERNATIVES TO INSECT REPELLANTS (ANTS)

ANTS - One of the most frequent pesticides are sprayed around the home
is to control ants.

* Keep things clean; don't leave any crumbs or garbage around.

* Wipe up a line of ants with a wet sponge so that other ants will not
follow. Wipe up any stray ants that may be out looking for food or
others.

* Sprinkle powdered chili pepper, paprika, dried peppermint, damp coffee
grounds, or borax where ants are coming in. Or squeeze the juice of a
lemon at the entry spot and leave the peel there.

* Plant mint around the outside of the house to discourage ants from
entering, or spray them with strong mint tea in a squirt bottle.

* Spray ants and ant trails with a biodegradable soap, both inside and
outside your house.

3 - FLEA REPELLENTS & KILLERS

Sprinkle two ounces of lavender oil extract over two or three quarts ofrock salt and let the salt absorb the oil. Sprinkle lavender salt underdressers, couches, and rugs, and in other area that don't move a lot.Dried pennyroyal can also be used (do not use pennyroyal oil, since inrare instances this more potent form has caused abortion in cats).

* Plant pennyroyal around the outside of your house and your lawn orgarden during the spring and summer.
*Feed your pet (and yourself, if necessary) plenty of brewers yeast. Theyeast gives an odor to the skin that fleas find unpleasant. Use twenty-five milligrams per ten pounds of animals body weight, beginning in the spring and continuing through the warm season. To prevent intestinal gas, feed the yeast to your pet in small amounts with moist food. If you or your pet is allergic to yeast, try rice-based B-Complex vitamins, available in natural food stores.

FLEA KILLERS

* Bake fleas out of your house, remove children, plants, and pets, close up your house, and turn up the heat to the highest setting. Go on an outing for the day, when you return, the fleas will be killed.

* Use a flea comb. Run the comb through your pets fur, and drop the fleas that remain on the comb into a nearby container of soapy water (which should be flushed down the toilet when you're through).

* Shampoo your animal to knock off fleas and drown others. Use an ordinary soap, or a special insecticide soap or shampoo.

4 - REPEL FLIES

FLIES

* Hang clusters of cloves in a room.

* Make flypaper by spreading honey thinly onto bright yellow paper
(yellow is the favorite color of lies).

* Use a swatter.

*Scratch the skin of an orange and leave it out; The citrus oil released
will repel flies.

Does anyone know how to keep flies from circling under a patio? or
garage? It never fails every spring and summer the flies just hover and
circle in one area. I have these incense sticks that are suppose to
repel insects, but don't really work. I have tried citronella candles
and bug spray but they keep coming back. And we also have a big problem
with bee's , every time we have a BBQ the bee's will literally land on
our plates and take off with pieces of food, they are not only brave but
very bold too!

8 - SPIDERS

Every house should have a few spiders because they help keep the population of other insects under control. The bites of some spiders, however, can be poisonous. Find out from your local library or poison control center about poisonous spiders that might live in your area and learn to identify them. If you see a friendly spider, leave it be.

A HUMANE TIP

If you don't want to kill a pest that is already in your home, cover it with a glass jar, slip a piece of paper under it, and take it outdoors. Or use a small, hand-held vacuum to whisk it up, and then dispose of it in an outdoor location.
