Join Gael Figueroa, the Academic Witch, for an introduction to Silvia Federici’s theory on witchcraft accusations and class warfare in the Middle Ages. The impact of the economic transition from feudalism to capitalism created great hardship and division amongst social classes. The use of witchcraft accusations to intimidate and subjugate women was instrumental in controlling the wealth of labor, and in securing patriarchal control of Europe. We will consider other theories on what instigated the witch hunts, as well as connections to current global class struggles, witchcraft and gender-related violence.
